During this time that people are feeding on fear and looking to the media for the next piece of bad news; losing sleep over what might come next and wearing concern on their faces, I asked God what He wanted shared in this devotional.
Brothers and Sisters in Christ, it is my firm belief that God wants us to trust Him, keep our minds rational and continue to have hope. I believe that God wants me not to spend the words in this devotional talking to you about trust or about not fearing, as His followers, we should already trust God to provide for our future, whatever that future looks like. Matthew 6:34 “…do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own”. I believe we should spend today, in today, loving God, loving each other and thinking about the greater good. Thank God for His divine plan in this time of trouble and always. “I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord; plan to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Jeremiah 29:11
If we can rest in His hope and His peace, His promise of life for us, I do believe that it is our responsibility as his people to bring light and hope to the darker parts of the this world. Is this our chance to “Make disciples of all nations”? Matthew 28:19. I believe our coworkers, families and Facebook friends need to see that we are trusting in the Lord, whatever His plan. The words chosen in this verse, I believe, are very specific: “You are the light of the world, a city that is SET on a hill cannot be hidden” Matthew 5:14; from the new King James version. We have gotten so used to saying “You are the light of the world, a city on a hill cannot be hidden”. Focus, if you will, on the New King James version, on the word “set”. God has set us apart as his people, particularly for days like these. We are not to respond like the rest of the world. We know better. We know the Lord. We know His heart for us. 1 Peter 2:9 “…you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light”.
We have been called out of darkness, Brothers and Sisters…SHINE, proclaim His excellencies!
